Motorists who fail to stop when special needs pedestrians are crossing roads will be fined SR300 or imprisoned or will face both penalties, a source at the General Directorate of Transport was quoted as saying by Makkah newspaper on Saturday. "Special needs people fear crossing roads as many motorists do not slow down for them," said the source, adding that being aware of pedestrians with disabilities is one of the traffic laws. "Motorists who do not slow down when special needs pedestrians are crossing the road violate the traffic law," said the source. "Inspectors will be recording violations. The department also welcomes reports from citizens. The law is the responsibility of all citizens and residents. Reporting violations has been made easier," he added. Meanwhile, Al-Riyadh daily reported that the Qassim Passport Department launched a new service for visitors with special needs and disabilities. Visitors to the department with special needs can use a new drive thru service to process their documents without having to get out of their vehicles.
