By driving a mere 20 minutes to get there, the weather weary residents of Al-Baha would find a moderate climate and the beauty of nature in Tihama. All governorates of Tihama are getting prepared to receive an influx of tourists who come to enjoy beautiful scenery of green mountains, traditional markets and traditional food restaurants offering mouth-watering delicacies. These days, almost all the malls in Tihama are witnessing a hige increase in their business by selling aromatic plants, honey and wood-made crafts. The most famous traditional food here is mandy and madhbi (barbecued meat). Over the past years, Tihama has seen rapid growth in the residential sectors, especially furnished apartments, as well as public parks and government projects such as schools, branches of universities, technical institutes, hospitals and health centers. The winner of the Prince Sultan Bin Salman Prize for Preservation of Urban Heritage in 2006, Rijal Alma' is also located in the Tihama area. It lies 45 km west of the tourist city of Abha and only 500 meters from the main road that connects the city of Mahayel Asir and Darb Bani Shubah. It has been around a long time and once was the capital of the principality of Hala during the reign of Mossa Al-Kenani in 732H. It is an ancient Asiri village set in an extensive valley on the trade route between Yemen, Makkah and the Red Sea.
