Anderson advances to Nice quarters
Published in The Saudi Gazette on 18 - 05 - 2016

Third-seeded Kevin Anderson won for only the third time this year in reaching the Nice Open quarterfinals Tuesday.
Anderson, who received a wild card at the clay-court tournament, hit seven aces and broke Diego Schwartzman of Argentina twice to win 7-6 (4), 6-3.
The 20th-ranked South African has been struggling with various injuries, and underwent ankle surgery in March. He will take on fifth-seeded Joao Sousa or Victor Estrella Burgos in the next round.
Also, No. 7 seed Andreas Seppi needed more than 2-1/2 hours to rally past Daniel Munoz de la Nava 6-7 (4), 7-5, 6-4 after saving a match point at 4-5 in the second set. He will be up against Paul-Henri Mathieu in the second round.
Vinci, Lisicki thru
In Nuremberg, Germany, top-seeded Roberta Vinci advanced to the second round of the clay-court tournament in Nuremberg by beating Czech qualifier Barbora Krejcikova 6-2, 2-6, 6-3 Tuesday.
Vinci will next face Dutch qualifier Kiki Bertens.
Fifth-seeded Sabine Lisicki had fewer problems against Lara Arruabarrena, winning 6-3, 6-4, while Julia Goerges defeated Cristina Dinu of Romania 6-1, 6-2.
Second-seeded Laura Siegemund of Germany breezed past Marina Melnikova of Russia 6-1, 6-0.
Also in the first round, sixth-seeded Misaki Doi of Japan beat Antonia Lottner of Germany 6-3, 7-6 (8).
Third-seeded Annika Beck, No. 4 Lesia Tsurenko of Ukraine and No. 7 Anna-Lena Friedsam of Germany also advanced from their second-round matches.
Wozniacki withdraws from French Open
The WTA says former world No. 1 Caroline Wozniacki has pulled out of the French Open because of an injured right ankle.
The 34th-ranked Wozniacki hasn't played since she lost her second match at the Miami Open in March.
Her participation at Roland Garros was already in doubt after she withdrew from clay-court tournaments in Madrid and Rome because of the injury she suffered during practice.
The draw for the French Open is Friday. Play begins Sunday.
