Hyderabad qualifies for playoffs
Published in The Saudi Gazette on 16 - 05 - 2016

Yuvraj Singh's unbeaten 42 off 24 helped Sunrisers Hyderabad defeat Kings XI Punjab in the Indian Premier League (IPL) here Sunday.
With this win, Hyderabad became the first team to qualify for the playoffs. Yuvraj's knock was inclusive of three boundaries and three sixes while he had Ben Cutting on the other end. The Australian also remained unbeaten on 21 off 11 and the duo went on to put 44 runs in 3.4 overs that ensured Hyderabad's party did not spoil after the dismissals of their set batsmen earlier in the innings.
Earlier, an angry Warner was seen walking off the field after getting out hit wicket in the 13th over. He became the third player from Sunrisers and over-all to get hit-wicket in this ninth edition of IPL after his teammates Deepak Hooda and Yuvraj Singh. The Hyderabad skipper went deep inside the crease and while an attempt to whip it, his feet disturbed the stumps that forced an angry Warner to walk back to the dugout for 52 off 41 balls. It was Warner's sixth half-century of IPL 2016 and this innings was inclusive of five boundaries and a six.
Earlier, Hashim Amla's 96 off 56 powered Punjab to 179 in 20 overs. Towards the end, it was David Miller whose fireworks of nine-ball 20 ensured Punjab put up a competitive total.
Brief scores:
Kings XI Punjab 179-4 (Hashim Amla 96, Gurkeerat Singh 27; Bhuveneshwar Kumar 2-32). Sunrisers Hyderabad (David Warner 52, Yuvraj Singh 42 not out; Akshar Patel 1-26).
Mumbai beats Delhi
Krunal Pandya's all-round show along with brilliant bowling by Jasprit Bumrah was enough for Mumbai Indians (MI) to register a 80-run win over Delhi Daredevils at Visakapatnam.
With this win MI go to 14 points and surge up to third. DD still continue to stay in the hunt to make it to the playoffs, but has slumped to fifth position. This huge win has certainly done MI's net run rate a world of good. DD never looked in the hunt as it lost wickets at regular intervals. Quinton de Lock was the only one looking good, but after he departed for 40 off 28, it was more or less curtains for DD.
Earlier, Krunal Pandya smashed it all around the park to take MI to 206 for 4 in their 20 overs. He was well supported by Martin Guptill, who missed out on scoring his maiden IPL fifty and was dismissed for 42-ball 48.
Brief Scores:
Mumbai Indians 206-4 (Martin Guptill 48, Krunal Pandya 86; Chris Morris 2-34). Delhi Daredevils 126 in 19.1 overs (Quinton de Kock 40, Rishabh Pant 23; Jasprit Bumrah 3 -13, Krunal Pandya 2-15). — Agencies
