AL-KHOBAR — The Saudi Badminton Committee & Expatriate Badminton Association (EBASA) in collaboration with Royal Commission for Jubail and Yanbu is organizing an Invitational International Badminton Tournament at Al-Huwailat Club, Jubail, on May 27 and 28. The president of EBASA, George PuthenMadhom, and the Saudi Badminton Committee representative, Olyan Al-Harbi, along with members of EBASA were present at a meeting held in Al-Khobar on May 7 with media. Players from India, Malaysia, Pakistan, Indonesia and Sri Lanka are taking part in this tournament in singles and doubles. Fifteen international players and three Asian Badminton Confederation officials have confirmed their availability. Over 500 players, who form an important cross section of the community, are expected to participate in eight levels of the game from novices to Premier Level. The players are from different nationalities — Saudi, Indian, Indonesian, Pakistani, Filipino, Malaysian, US, Canadian and Bahraini. A professional group comprising international referee and umpires will supervise the event. The Saudi national junior team along with the national coach, Ammar Awad, is also taking part in the tournament. All the international players are BWF world ranked and top seeds in their respective countries. Cash prizes are on offer to the winners in addition to an all-expense-paid trip for international players.
