The Saudi embassy in Beirut has refuted news reports that Saudi Arabia was handing out weapons and sparking Sunni-Shiite sedition in Lebanon. The Saudi embassy issued a statement calling the accusations as groundless and perpetrated to incite hatred against the Kingdom. The statement said: “We are surprised that some individuals claim to support a new era (in Lebanon) while still bent on fanning the flames. We want to remind them that Lebanon is about to step towards a new beginning and that everyone must work to clear the air and create a favorable climate. Those who claim that we are supporting sedition must show evidence and announce it publicly.” The statement said that the Kingdom supports good and humane causes, like rehabilitation and building of schools, hospitals and universities in Lebanon. Moreover, Saudi Arabia has stood by Lebanon at times of crises and war, backed its economy and supported its people. The statement also called on those who incite hatred and create trouble to fear God and refrain from such behavior. – Okaz __
