Stay connected inflight with Social-Lite!
Published in The Saudi Gazette on 13 - 05 - 2016

Value carrier Scoot has launched a low-cost inflight Wi-Fi plan named "Social-Lite", allowing guests to stay connected at unbeatable value with friends, families and co-workers as they travel!
Optimized for messaging and chat services as well as light surfing, "Social-Lite" costs just $5 for 20MB of data at 64kbps surfing speed. It complements Scoot's existing inflight Wi-Fi plans on its Boeing 787 fleet, priced attractively at $11.95 for one hour, $16.95 for three hours and $21.95 for 24 hours, without any cap on data consumed. Scoot is the only carrier in the world to offer inflight Wi-Fi across its entire fleet.
"Our fun-loving guests have told us several times that they love our unlimited data Wi-Fi plans! Sometimes though, all they want is to send off a quick text to friends and family to let them know when they will arrive, or to not miss out on conversations with their friends and chat groups. We then realised there was a gap to fill, and since Scoot exists to give our guests the choice to pay for only what matters to them, ‘Social-Lite' was born. It is affordable and perfect for most of our guests who love to stay constantly connected but only require quick messaging or chatting on the go," said Steven Greenway, Scoot's head of commercial.
"Working with Scoot, we've changed the game in inflight connectivity to give guests more choices. They can opt for a broadband experience or, if they prefer, pay less for quick texting or light email services to contact friends or loved ones on ground," added David Bruner, vice president global communications services of Panasonic Avionics Corporation, added.
"Social-Lite" comes hot on the heels of a recent improvement to the Scoot-Thru facilitated transfer service for guests with connecting flights. Now, guests will receive boarding passes for both flights when they check in for the first flight. Their baggage will be tagged and transferred to the connecting flight and final destination. When transiting in Singapore, they can simply chill and board the connecting flight with peace of mind!
The Scoot Café inflight menu was also recently updated with a new spin on one of Singapore's most beloved dishes – Scoot Exclusive Dry Laksa featuring thick rice noodles stir-fried in fragrant Laksa broth, topped with succulent shrimps and egg. Meal options suitable for passengers on Scoot's new Jeddah and Indian routes have also been added.
These updates follow last year's product enhancement blitz enabled by Scoot's transition to an all-787 Dreamliner fleet, including an enhanced ScootBiz product that bundles a roomy all-leather cradle seat with a premium meal and 30kg check-in baggage among other benefits; revamped ScooTV that streams a diverse selection of movies and television shows to guests' personal devices; Web Check-in and Scoot-to-Gate to beat airport queues; PlusPerks to earn KrisFlyer miles; as well as the introduction of airport transfers that allow guests a seamless, end-to-end travel experience.
As its fourth anniversary of operations in June approaches, fast-growing Scoot has also been rapidly expanding its route network, having started services to Jeddah and announced four new destinations – Sapporo in Japan and Chennai, Amritsar, and Jaipur in India – in the past four weeks alone. Guests can look forward to Scootin' to even more exciting destinations at unbeatable value soon!
Scoot, the low-cost, medium-haul arm of the Singapore Airlines Group, has carried over six million guests since taking to the skies in June 2012. The world's first all 787 Dreamliner fleet operates between Singapore and Sydney, Gold Coast, Bangkok, Taipei, Tokyo, Tianjin, Shenyang, Nanjing, Qingdao, Seoul, Hong Kong, Perth, Osaka, Kaohsiung, Hangzhou, Melbourne, Guangzhou and Jeddah.
Scoot provides – in addition to fantastic value airfares – a safe, reliable and contemporary travel experience with a unique attitude – Scootitude.
