Live cooking contest kicks off
Published in The Saudi Gazette on 11 - 07 - 2008

Who doesn't like delicious food? Especially when cooks compete to make their best mouth-watering delicacies.
A live cooking contest underway at Osaka restaurant on Khalidia Street, has people who love cooking battling it out to conjure up their most irresistible dishes.
And the judge will be you. That's right, those of you who visit the restaurant get to taste and judge the contestants.
The contest is part of events scheduled by different companies for the citywide Jeddah Summer Festival.
“Contestants can cook anything they like to cook,” said Heba Zahid, Account Executive of Phenomenal Pr. during the launch of the contest on Tuesday.
“The main aim of this contest is to have fun while cooking delicious food. Judges will be the people present at the restaurant. It can be anyone.”
The contest will be held every Tuesday at 9:00 P.M. for 4 weeks.
One contestant, Ahmed Ageel, Strategic Planning Manager for Sales in King Abdullah Economic City, said on the opening day that he was there to experiment.
“I'll cook sushi, a Japanese dish. It's my favorite, but never tried cooking it before.”
Sushi is vinegared rice, usually topped with fish, meat, and vegetables. (it is sometimes misunderstood to mean raw seafood, which is sashimi).
Three members of a family were contesting as a group. Razan Mohammad Anas, a mother, said, “We'll cook mushroom soup and sizzling chicken.”
The contest is held in the following manner: Five to six participants in three groups will compete against one another.
After three weeks, the winners of each week will compete in the fourth mega final week.
The final winner's name and dish will be included in Osaka restaurant's menu.
