JEDDAH – The Customs officials at King Abdulaziz International Airport foiled attempts to smuggle in huge cache of heroin into the Kingdom. In separate incidents, three smugglers were caught with a total of 4.643 kilograms of heroin, the Saudi Press Agency reported on Tuesday. Two smugglers attempted to smuggle in heroin in their intestines, while the third inside his baggage. Abdullah Al-Filay, director general of Customs at the airport, said that Customs officials found a man, who arrived in the Kingdom on board a plane, in suspicious circumstances, and when his stomach was subjected to ultrasound scanning, it was revealed that he was carrying 85 capsules with 618 grams of heroin after swallowing them. The second smuggler was arrested in similar circumstances after discovering that he was carrying capsules weighing 523 grams of heroin in his intestine. About 3.5 kilograms of heroin was seized from the baggage of a third smuggler, Al-Filay said adding that the Customs officials are exerting all out efforts to prevent smuggling of drugs into the Kingdom. A few days ago, the Customs officials at King Khaled International Airport in Riyadh foiled attempts to smuggle in heroin with the arrest of two smugglers who were carrying a total of 1.288 kilograms of heroin in their intestines.
