Most of the frozen meat imported into Saudi Arabia does not comply with Gulf standards regarding the storage of frozen food and meat. The shocking announcement was made Tuesday by the Saudi Food and Drug Authority (SFDA) which has been closely monitoring the importation of meat into the Kingdom. It has now given importers a three-month grace period to comply with Gulf standards and specifications concerning meat imports. Meat which does not meet Gulf standards after this period will not be allowed to enter the Kingdom, the SFDA said. It also urged importers to add an extra article to the contracts between them and foreign countries which guarantees their rights to hold the latter accountable if the imported meat does not comply with pertinent standards and specifications or does not have health certificates. __
