Faisal, Emir of Makkah region, has criticized the lack of youth representation on the newly-formed Board of Directors of the Makkah Youth Volunteer Society. The 21-member board of directors was announced Monday, with only eight youth representatives. He expressed his hope that this would be changed in the forthcoming session and that all board members would be young people. He said the youth should play a pivotal role on the body. Prince Khaled gave young men and women the freedom to approve the Board of Directors at its first session and to nominate others if there were any reservations about the current incumbents. He expressed his hope that members would be elected through elections organized and run by the youth. “The idea to establish the society was as a result of the honorable work of young men and women during the flood disasters in 2009 and 2010. We are all thankful to Crown Prince Naif Bin Abdul Aziz, Deputy Premier and Minister of Interior, for supporting this idea. He helped us establish it by directing the Minister of Social Affairs to take care of the project,” Prince Khaled said. Meanwhile, Dr. Abdul Aziz Bin Abdullah Al-Khudhairi, Undersecretary of Makkah region's governorate, said the Ministry of Social Affairs had approved the society's Board of Directors with 11 members, but Prince Khaled intervened and added 10 members to bring the total to 21. This was to give the society a broader and more comprehensive view. __
