New proposals are being considered that could see prisoners standing trial without appearing before a court. Under Ministry of Justice plans, closed circuit technology would be used to record a prisoner's testimony. The court in prison concept is designed to solve the problem of transporting prisoners to and from courts. Sheikh Mansour Al-Qafari, Ministry of Justice spokesman, revealed that the ministry has studied similar successful implementation of this technology internationally. “The ministry is studying the possibility of shifting to e-courts through the use of closed circuit technology without compromising with the prisoner's right to a fair trial,” Al-Qafari was quoted by Al-Watan Arabic newspaper as saying. However, he also stressed the ministry can't take any further steps unless the Supreme Judiciary Council gives it the go-ahead.
