DHAHRAN — A student's gesture at his graduation ceremony signified the importance of mother and her exalted position in Islam. During the 46th graduation ceremony of King Fahd University of Petroleum and Minerals (KFUPM) a student ran to her mother and kissed her forehead in gratitude, drawing applause from the attendees. Eastern Province Emir Prince Saud Bin Naif said KFUPM is one of the leading universities in science and technology. "The university invests in the students' creativity and innovation. It uses state of the art technology to enhance the quality of education. "All students are required to do an internship before their graduation. The students stand in solidarity with their country and support the educational institute," he said. Describing the student's gesture, University's President Khalid Al-Sultan said, "It was a touching moment for all of us. It shows how much mothers play a vital role in our sons' education and success in their studies and careers. He said Islamic values of society encourage the expression of gratitude toward parents. "The Prophet (pbuh) has exalted mother over father for her endless support for her children. Mothers taught us to love and care. "Mothers are the root of prosperity in society. The university is honored and proud to have such a display of respect and honor," said Al-Sultan. The graduation ceremony was held at the sports stadium in Dhahran. Some 1,561 students received their degrees.
