Published in The Saudi Gazette on 10 - 04 - 2016

Dar Al-Hekma University organized "kree-ey-tiv-i-tee" Library Day at the university's campus recently with the theme of creativity going hand in hand with this academic year. For the first time the university has invited around a 100 academic librarians to attend a list of lectures and workshops.
"Creativity is a very important aspect that should influence all the different parts of our life. Moreover, community service is one of the main pillars that Dar Al-Hekma University believes in. The event was able to bring these two important concepts under one umbrella," said Dr. Suhair Hassan Al Qurashi, president of Dar Al-Hekma University.
The main idea of the library day was to show that librarians can help individuals become creative by promoting culture and research. The event consisted of five main parts.
The first part was a small art gallery that displayed a special needs individual's art work. This gallery had some art work from Hope for Exceptional Needs, Help Center and Haya Abdulla Shuaib who despite her Down Syndrome works in Dar Al-Hekma University's library.
The second part was book sales with three publishers taking part in the university's library day to display and sell books to encourage reading; Virgin, Sibawayh and Obhur.
The third part was the old manuscript display that was donated by King Abdul Aziz Foundation for Research and Archives to support the university.
The fourth part was about meet and greet the author station were nine female authors came to Dar Al-Hekma University to talk about their books, sell and sign them.
The fifth and the most important part of the event was the librarians' session that consisted of five speakers that talked about different aspects about libraries and creativity.
"The Dar Al-Hekma Library is delighted to host the community librarians for a meeting on Libraries and Creativity. This is in hopes of innovating new changes in a creative way," said Dr. Mariam Gard, Library Director.
"Naseej Company is always happy to support and partner with the library and information communities and their institutions in the region. Naseej is proud of its partnership with Dar Al-Hekma University and express full gratitude for their effort and congratulates the University on the Library for 2016 under the title of Library Creativity," said Abduljabbar Al Abduljabbar, CEO of the Naseej Company.
