Saudi Arabian Airlines has announced that 87.38 percent of its flights during 2011 were on time, compared to 81.94 percent during 2010, an increase of 5.44 percent. Saudia flew 158,449 flights in 2011, an increase of 11,890 flights compared to 2010. This is the best performance of Saudia in six years. The punctuality rate in December 2011 was around 94 percent, the highest rate ever achieved in a month. Khalid Bin Abdullah Almolhem, Director General of Saudia, said the performance was better than many other international airlines. He said some flights were late because of weather conditions, overcrowding, security measures, safety and labor strikes at international airports.
