Canucks rally to down Ducks
Published in The Saudi Gazette on 03 - 04 - 2016

Emerson Etem scored the tie-breaking goal against his former team with 6:37 to play, and the Vancouver Canucks rallied from a third-period deficit for their second straight victory, 3-2 over the Anaheim Ducks Friday.
Dan Hamhuis scored the tying goal shortly after Nate Thompson put the Ducks ahead in the third period. Etem then batted home a rebound in the longtime Ducks forward's first game back at Honda Center since Anaheim traded the native of nearby Long Beach last summer.
Bo Horvat also scored and Jacob Markstrom stopped 34 shots for the Canucks, who snapped their nine-game winless skid Thursday in San Jose.
John Gibson made 25 saves and Josh Manson scored in the opening minute for the injury-depleted Ducks, who had won three straight.
Anaheim remained one point behind the archrival Los Angeles Kings in the Pacific Division standings. The Southern California rivals each have five games left, including a Freeway Faceoff next week.
The loss snapped a three-game winning streak for the Ducks, who played without seven regulars and lost forward Brandon Pirri in the second period.
Bruins 6, Blues 5: David Krejci scored two goals and added two assists and the Boston Bruins held on for a 6-5 win over the St Louis Blues on Friday to retain their slim hold on third place in the Atlantic Division.
The Bruins won for only the second time in their last eight games as they maintained a one-point lead over the Detroit Red Wings in the playoff battle with four games remaining in the regular season.
Loui Eriksson, Matt Beleskey, Frank Vatrano and Patrice Bergeron also scored for the Bruins while Robert Bortuzzo, Alex Pietrangelo, Kevin Shattenkirk, Jaden Schwartz and Paul Stastny scored for the Blues.
Red Wings 3, Wild 2: Riley Sheahan had a goal and an assist and Detroit held on for a desperately needed victory against Minnesota at Joe Louis Arena.
The Red Wings moved within a point of Boston for third place in the Atlantic Division — and tied the Philadelphia Flyers, who have two games in hand, for the second wild card into the playoffs from the Eastern Conference.
Dylan Larkin and Tomas Tatar also scored for Detroit. Jimmy Howard made 20 saves.
Jonas Brodin and Mikael Granlund scored for Minnesota. Zach Parise and Ryan Suter had two assists apiece and Devan Dubnyk made 26 saves.
Blackhawks 5, Jets 4 (OT): Brent Seabrook scored at 1:02 of overtime to lift Chicago over Winnipeg.
Artemi Panarin scored a pair of goals, while Patrick Kane and Brandon Mashinter also added goals for the Blackhawks.
Blake Wheeler scored twice and added an assist, Dustin Byfuglien scored his 18th goal and had two helpers, and Nic Petan netted his second of the year. Mark Scheifele also had two assists for the Jets.
Capitals 4, Avalanche 2: Alex Ovechkin had a goal, Braden Holtby made 18 saves and playoff-bound Washington dealt a big blow to the post-season hopes of Colorado.
Jason Chimera, T.J. Oshie and Jay Beagle also scored for the Capitals, who were sharp as they tune up for the playoffs.
Semyon Varlamov had 43 saves and Jarome Iginla and Gabriel Landeskog scored for the Avalanche, which missed a chance to gain on Minnesota for the last wild card in the Western Conference.
