An official source at the Kuwaiti Foreign Ministry has stated that the natural resources in the Kuwaiti Durrah Area are the rights of Kuwait and Saudi Arabia and that they alone have sovereign rights in the area to exploit its resources. This was revealed when Kuwait's Foreign Ministry recently lodged a protest note to the Iranian Embassy rejecting any unilateral action by Iran in the Durrah field. The source said Kuwait and Saudi Arabia have lodged a protest against Iran's drilling of a well in the Durrah field, which it called the Arash Field. In a statement, reported by Kuwait's Al-Qabas Newspaper, the source called on Iran to immediately start negotiations, in which Kuwait and Saudi Arabia will constitute one negotiating party, to demarcate the maritime boundary. The source hoped that Iran would respond positively to the calls for negotiations.
