KSA spends SR1b in aid to Yemenis in less than a year
Published in The Saudi Gazette on 07 - 03 - 2016

Inspired by the teachings of Islam, King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Center (KSRELIEF) has carried out a number of programs in less than a year to alleviate the sufferings of the poor and needy in different countries, including Yemen.
Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Salman has allocated SR1 billion to finance the center's humanitarian activities, in addition to the allocation of SR1 billion to fulfill the relief and humanitarian needs of the Yemeni people.
The center is designed to become a leading international relief agency to support afflicted communities with the aim of alleviating their sufferings and providing them with a decent and respectable living condition.
"Our goal and mission shall be focused on exerting our best efforts to have this center fully dedicated to the humanitarian aid, away from any other motives, in cooperation with accredited international relief entities and organizations," the king said while launching the center.
"In the light of our deep concern for our brothers and sisters in Yemen, as well as the Regaining of Hope initiative, the center shall pay full attention to relief and humanitarian needs of the Yemeni people, who are very dear to our hearts," King Salman had said.
Dr. Abdullah Al-Rabeeah, general supervisor of the center and adviser at the Royal Court, highlighted the center's impressive activities within a short span. "We have signed a contract to establish 300 high quality shelter homes for the Yemeni refugees in Djibouti," he said.
KSRELIEF has carried out 50 relief programs for the Yemenis including distribution of food baskets and drinking water for Yemenis in Djibouti, in addition to the provision of health services. It distributed 100,000 food baskets in Taez and baby milk among families in Dhali province of Yemen. "This project was carried out in coordination with the World Food Program," the supervisor said, adding that the center contributed $125 million to the project.
KSRELIEF has spent SR50 million to rescue displaced Yemeni people and transport them to secure places and provide them with essential services. "We have also distributed 660 food baskets among the flood and quake victims in Roshan and Rosht cities of Tajikistan," he added.
The center was founded on May 13, 2015. "KSRELIEF operates through a group of programs designed as per the global models to enable the center to pursue the crucial role being played by Saudi Arabia in relief and aid programs, addressing the needs of stricken communities.
Al-Rabeeah emphasized the need for such a center in the backdrop of many challenges facing the humanity. "Due to numerous events and incidents, natural catastrophes and wars or harsh conditions suffered by some countries and communities, human beings have become victims of diseases, hunger, loss of home as well as a lack of education and medical care," he said.
Saudi Arabia plays a leading role among world countries with regard to the volume of relief, humanitarian, and developmental aid for which it has been greatly admired and recognized by many competent organizations and entities.
The core values of the center are: Respond objectively and transparently to the needy, make sincere attempts to achieve the highest standards of professionalism and quality, encourage the participation of the public in relief activities, take the initiative and establish strong partnership at international level, and work toward unlimited humanitarian aid.
