JEDDAH — Team Kapamilya downed Team Kapuso in SPTC Goodwill Games, organized at the sports complex of King Abdulaziz University in honor of its former chairman Cesar Pabico, who is leaving Saudi Arabia for good. Two groups — Team Kapamilya and Team Kapuso — are competing in this tournament. Trophies and plaques are at stakes in this best-of-three round competition, with each round summarizing the total game scores of each group that determines the round winner under the point system rule, or the team that gets the higher total number of games won is the round winner. The team that wins two rounds shall be declared the winner. Thirty-six club members/players joined this doubles competition, and they are grouped into different local categories, such as Legends (highly-rated 60 years old and above), B2+, B2-C, and C. Matchups are fixed within each category and follows the scoring system of a standard team tennis tournament. Scores after the first round matches played last Friday show Team Kapamilya winning with a total of 62 over 52 for Team Kapuso, broken down as follows: Team Kapamilya — Category B2+: Fred Masangkay-Boy Isuga vs. Celso Abella-Norwin Catipay 8-6; Category B2-C: Julius Garcia-JM Bravo vs. Rolly Bautista-Mashur Jamiri 8-7; Category B2: Roy Timtiman-Mario Betorio vs. Leo Milarion-Rolly Saladana 8-4; Category C: Ariel Domingo-Nasser Cayquep vs. Ali Callanta-Yusuf Adriatico 8-1; Sherwin Nervais-Clark Maldo vs. Rick Maulion- Arnold Tambalo 8-5; Peter Abou Toumo-Fernan Fermin vs. Vic Rebong-Nilo Gamba Jr. 8-5 The following doubles of Team Kapuso won their matches: Category Legends — Bernie Soguilon-Gary Bautro vs. Jun Tomas-CesarQ 8-4; Category B2+: Romeo Poras-Waymour Carmelotes vs. Marlon Pagsanjan-Romy Sora 8-7; Category B2-C: Roman Alcantara-Mike Amerol vs. Oscar Lovitos-Zaldy Gabriel 8-3. The organizers have named this tournament as Cesar Pabico Farewell Cup, the first of the SPTC activities for the year 2016 under the leadership of the new club chairman, Ariel Domingo.
