Salem Mutheeb AlAtheena. – Courtesy photo Kuwait — The Ministry of Communication in Kuwait has signed a contract with Etihad Etisalat “Mobily” to connect the National Optical Fibers' network with the service providers in Kuwait, which will enable them to benefit from the company's infrastructure, a press statement of the Ministry said here today. Dr. Eyas Al Hajery, Mobily's SVP Wholesale and carrier services, signed the agreement with Kuwait's Minister of Communication, Electricity and Water , Eng. Salem Mutheeb AlAtheena. The underground cable is set to deliver enormous bandwidth allowing Internet service providers in Kuwait to benefit from Mobily's Fiber Optic that runs through the borders between the two countries. Salem AlAtheena said that the Ministry of Communication is working on developing old telecom cables and expanding their capacity and at the same time, engaging with new external cables that will add more to the level of competition and choice amongst companies. “The contract with Mobily will help to enhance the provided services with the best quality and in the least prices,” he said. Dr. Eyas Al Hajery, explained the agreement compliments Mobily's plans to build international networks via SNFN to guarantee and find multiple and reliable paths for the data connection within the Kingdom and connecting it to all the neighboring countries. “The project will offer service providers in Kuwait a diversity in terms of pathways that will guarantee the provision of services and will provide the necessary protection for business continuity.” Mobily is working on other regional projects where in 2010 it announced its commencement in the TGN project which runs from East Asia to Europe, passing through all of Singapore, India, Jeddah, London and Marseille. “Mobily” is also working on creating a 4000 Km regional network of ground cables (RCN) with high bandwidth that extends from the UAE to Europe, passing by the kingdom via “Mobily” networks and straight to Jordan, Syria and Turkey ; in collaboration with a number of regional operators, the network allows high-speed internet connection. Mobily announced a five-year strategy in 2010 that include projects which will consolidate it's position in the integrated solutions based on advanced high speed technologies.
