As the Porsche GT3 Cup Challenge Middle East reached its halfway stage at Abu Dhabi's illustrious Yas Marina Circuit last weekend, the AlFaisal Racing team can look back on some fine performances which have put the Saudi duo into a strong second-place in their debut year as a team, while Saud AlFaisal tops the Silver Category. With three more installments to come this season, the young Saudi driver is looking to up his game in competition with the region's top talents. Racing in what is the first year for the team, AlFaisal Racing is on track to take home silverware in its first outing in the series. With a range of consistent performances across the first half of the season from both Abdulaziz and Saud, the team has proved itself as a force to be reckoned with. For Saud, racing in the series for the first year, the opportunity for a victorious first year is there but he knows a challenge lies ahead if he is to retain his 12-point lead in the Silver Category, currently held over rival Wolfgang Triller. Commenting on reaching the halfway stage driving the legendary Porsche GT3 Cup car, Saud AlFaisal said: "To work with this incredible car and against such terrific talents is a real blessing, and I'm just enjoying it. "This region is famed for its passion for motorsport, and having already been back to legendary circuits across Bahrain, Saudi-Arabia and Abu Dhabi is a fantastic feeling." Known for developing Arab racing talent at the grassroots level, the Porsche GT3 Cup Challenge Middle East continues to produce new heroes on the track. In the Silver Michelin Category, the standings for the youngest drivers in the series, Saud is heading the charts with 81 points having consistently delivered strong results in his debut season. For Walter Lechner, founder and manager of Lechner Racing, the promoter behind the Porsche GT3 Cup Challenge Middle East, the achievements of the next generation of racers has this season offered a taste of what is to come from the region in the world of motorsports. Regarded as the purest form of racing with all drivers competing in identical fifth generation Porsche 911 GT3 Cups, the unique one-make series consists of 12 races between November 2015 and March 2016. The Porsche GT3 Cup Challenge Middle East now heads to Dubai for two rounds across January and February, closely followed by the return to Bahrain in early March which is set to be a thrilling end to Season 7.
