Saudi Gazette A comprehensive study revealed that 3,000 males between the age of 15 and 25 years have been charged with minor violations due to their aggressive behavior. Security officials, social workers, educators participated in the study to find the common forms of violence perpetuated. The results of the study were reported at a press conference, last week, held at the Islamic University in Madina. According to the study, aggressive behavior in young men starts out with obscenities, which is the first sign of rebellion. If the problem is not swiftly dealt with on time, then the next stage is more disastrous, which is vandalizing public properties, assaulting the other person, and finally reckless driving. “The reasons that drive young men to aggression stem from a variety of factors. A personal or psychological problem, family problems, social problems, and educational difficulties can all lead to hostile behavior. An inability to control one's impulses or temper, lack of maturity, distorted conception of what is manly behavior, poor school performance, and abandoning the teachings and practices of our religion can drive men in the wrong direction,” said Dr. Eid Al-Maghamsi, Supervisor of the Aggressive Behavior Research A similar study conducted by Dr. Ali Al-Zahrani from the Islamic University of Madina found that those with violent behavior usually come from dysfunctional families with problems such as violence at home, alcohol or drug abuse by a family member, sexual harassment, oppression of the women in the family, or infidelity by either spouse. The study also revealed that watching violent and indecent films influences young men to adopt such behavior. This usually leads one to run away from home or inflict harm on himself or others. The researchers call on all members of the society to follow the principles of Islam, a religion that respects women, emphasizes the sanctity of human life and honor, and keeps the energies and minds of the youth occupied in what is beneficial and productive. They also hope that these two studies will pave way for more studies, research, and training that will help educate mothers, fathers, siblings, teachers, and counselors on how to resolve the social problems of aggressive behavior. __
