Joe Pavelski nearly forgot how it felt to win at home. After winning a second straight game in their own building, the San Jose Sharks seem to be getting their swagger back. Pavelski and Joonas Donskoi each scored during the shootout and Martin Jones stopped both Edmonton shooters to give the San Jose Sharks a 2-1 victory over the Oilers Thursday. "It was a great effort by the guys," Pavelski said. "That's the first time we've won two in a row in a while. Just a little momentum with our game overall. We played well and we get a couple wins." Marc-Edouard Vlasic scored in the first period and the Sharks won their fourth straight and built a home winning streak for the first time all season. "It's important to put a couple wins together," Vlasic said. "Now we've got four in a row. We're climbing in the standings. You want to keep it going." Nail Yakupov scored, but the Oilers fell to 0-4-3 in their last seven road games. Edmonton coach Todd McLellan returned to San Jose for the first time since leaving the team after the end of last season. Jones stopped 24 of 25 shots for the Sharks while Cam Talbot saved 36 of 37 shots. Capitals 4, Canucks 1 Evgeny Kuznetsov notched two goals and an assist, Braden Holtby stopped 29 shots, and the Washington Capitals defeated the Vancouver Canucks 4-1 for their fifth straight win. Defenseman Karl Alzner and Tom Wilson also scored as the Capitals picked up their 11th straight home win. Islanders 3, Rangers 1 Brock Nelson and Nick Leddy scored within the first five minutes of the third period as the New York Islanders moved into sole possession of second place in the Metropolitan Division with a 3-1 win over the Rangers in front of a sellout crowd at Barclays Center. The Islanders (24-15-5) won their second in a row and for the sixth time in 10 games (6-4-0). They swept the Rangers at home for the first time since the 1997-98 season. Blackhawks 2, Canadiens 1 Chicago goaltender Corey Crawford turned in another strong performance to help the Blackhawks to a 2-1 win over the Montreal Canadiens at the Bell Centre. The win was Chicago's ninth straight and the 783rd of Joel Quenneville's coaching career, moving the Blackhawks' bench boss past Al Arbour to second in the all-time wins list. Hurricanes 4, Blues 1 Jeff Skinner scored one goal and assisted on another to lead the Carolina Hurricanes to a 4-1 win over the St. Louis Blues. The win extended the Hurricanes' streak to a season-high four games and was their first in St. Louis since Dec. 11, 2010. Jets 5, Predators 4 (OT) Blake Wheeler scored on a hard wrist shot just 51 seconds into overtime, lifting the Winnipeg Jets to a 5-4 victory over the Nashville Predators. Jets winger Andrew Ladd registered his third assist of the game on the play as Wheeler notched his 12th goal of the season. Avalanche 3, Devils 0 Colorado goaltender Calvin Pickard made 27 saves for his first career shutout as the Avalanche beat the New Jersey Devils 3-0. Matt Duchene, Carl Soderberg and Tyson Barrie scored for Colorado (22-20-3), who gained two valuable points in the tight Western Conference playoff race. Red Wings 3, Coyotes 2 (OT) Detroit defenseman Danny DeKeyser took a feed from Dylan Larkin and beat Coyotes goalie Louis Domingue to the upper corner of the net at 2:08 of overtime as the Red Wings rallied from a two-goal, third-period deficit to defeat Arizona 3-2.
