Three civilians including a child were killed by shelling from Yemen, reports said Friday. Several shells from Yemeni territory landed in the Jazan region on Thursday evening, the Saudi Press Agency (SPA) said, citing the Civil Defense. "This led to the death of three people, including a child, and (the) injury of nine others who were taken to hospital," the agency's spokesman Major Yahya Abdullah Al-Qahtani said. Iran-backed Houthi rebels in Yemen have intensified cross-border rocket attacks since late last year. They have also fired ballistic missiles. On Wednesday, the Kingdom shot down a missile fired from Yemen. The Saudi military said it intercepted the missile in Jazan and later attacked and destroyed the platform that launched the missile in Yemen. Around 90 civilians and soldiers have died from shelling and skirmishes in Saudi border regions since March when a Saudi-led military coalition began air and ground action in Yemen. They are supporting local forces against the rebels and their allies, who seized territory from the internationally-recognized government. Citizen beaten up in Awamiyah A Saudi citizen in his 30s claimed that he was kidnapped at gunpoint by a group of armed rioters while he was driving through Awamiyah town. He was then taken to an agricultural area where he was beaten up and photographed. Police in Al-Qatif received the report on the abduction and assault at 3.30 a.m. Friday. The citizen said his vehicle was also shot at as he drove after his release, SPA quoted the spokesman of the Eastern Province Police as saying Friday. Investigations are under way, the spokesman added.
