Published in The Saudi Gazette on 03 - 01 - 2016

The Department of Economic Development (DED) in Dubai has added 37 more activities to the list of permitted businesses in Dubai. The decision to raise the number of activities from 2,088 to 2,125 is part of DED's efforts to facilitate commercial activity and business expansion in Dubai and the UAE in general. The move follows studies conducted by the Business Registration & Licensing (BRL) sector in DED and feedback from traders and license owners.
The newly added activities cover the most vital sectors in Dubai, including: Scientific office, Processing plant products for pharmaceutical uses, Consultancy for radiology diagnostic centers, Organizing camping trips, Contracting installation of central gas networks in buildings, Installation of license plate numbers, Aviation services co-ordination, Veterinary research center, Issuance of smart tourist card services, Collection and transfer of construction waste and demolition, Sewing men's clothes and military uniforms, Sewing women's clothes and military uniforms, Military services representatives, Certificates and documents attestation, Wax museum, Environmental inspection and monitoring, Real estate secretarial services, Project management services, Sports management, Aerial photography, and Corporate services provider.
Walid Abdul Malik, Director of Registration in BRL, said: "We have added new activities to the list of licenses after a series of studies and opinion polls conducted among more than 150 businessmen and investors over a four-month period. The activities added will help meet current and future needs of license owners and businesses, and complement the demand and supply situation in the local market."
Abdul Malik added that DED's goal is to support growth in vital sectors, thus raising investor confidence and Dubai's overall competitiveness. "We will continue to evaluate market requirements and discuss opportunities to add new activities in retail trade as well as the manufacturing and service sectors. We aspire to raise Dubai's standing as the place to do business and enhance UAE's ranking in the Doing Business report of the World Bank."
Abdul Malik said 35% of the new activities licensed cover industrial and retail sectors, such as power supply devices and systems, textiles and textile products, dietary supplements, drone operations, diesel trade, classic cars, used car exports, general wholesale trade, solar energy equipment rentals, marine protection tools and barriers, and rescue operations and equipment. — SG
