AN Arabic daily recently published a report saying foreign and Saudi drivers sexually abused their women clients in the daylight. This issue demands special attention from all relevant authorities, including the governorate and the traffic department. I don't want to publicize immorality by focusing on the issue. I know about women who had fallen victim to this driver racket, which resulted for them to lose their honor. I have noticed that a majority of people behind this racket are foreign drivers. We don't know the background of these drivers who come from far off places. Some of them could be wanted criminals, some others engage in immoral practices while other drivers sell drugs. There are many others who run brothels and manufacture alcohol. They call their victims queens to sexually exploit them by themselves and sell them to others to have extramarital affairs on a daily basis. Members of the racket trap these women by telling them that there are people interested in marrying them. In order to appear before the proposed groom as a beautiful lady they wear marvelous clothes and apply valuable cosmetics. This incident highlights the importance of allowing women to drive in the Kingdom. Conservative groups have been opposing the move to allow women to drive and called its proponents liberalists and secularists. I don't know why they are branded liberalists. Some people use the words liberalist and secularist to denounce those who oppose their views. Thus they follow the arbitrary policies of Pharaohs. If they consider women driving as prohibited, then they have to find a practical and effective solution to prevent misuse of women. Public transport, school transport and government transport were some of the solutions but have not solved the problem. The government transport system was misused by civil servants and their families. When admitted the failure of SAPTCO, they said wait for the metro system. We would like to know the obstacles facing SAPTCO, major transport companies, metros and government transport. Why don't we introduce a new public transport system exclusively for women, focusing on hospitals, markets, schools and public departments? This system was available in the Northern Border Province in the past. The municipal councils were supposed to introduce such modern systems. We can also introduce cooperative centers to distribute essential commodities in homes at cheaper rates. We have made so many proposals before but they have not been yet been translated into reality.
