[gallery td_select_gallery_slide="slide" ids="17642,17641,17640,17639,17638"] RIYADH — The Philippine Embassy in Riyadh participated in the Universal Children's Day Festival hosted by the Ministry of Culture and Information in late November at the King Fahd Cultural Center. Children from the Philippine Embassy performed "Mamang Sorbetero", by Celeste Legaspi, in front of other children from different countries during the first day of the festival while students from the International Philippine School in Riyadh and Elite International School danced "Piliin mo ang Pilipinas" and "Maglalatik" during the 2nd and 3rd day of the festival. In addition, the Embassy also showed some of the Philippine games and toys like "Sungka" and "holen" to the visitors during the festival. At the same time, Philippine tourism was also promoted during the festival by distributing various brochures and giveaways to the visitors. During the last day of the festival, the children from the Philippine Embassy performed with the other children from different countries including Saudi Arabia, in front of the Minister of Culture and Information Dr. Adel Al – Toraifi, Saudi government officials and diplomats from participating foreign missions, including the Philippines. The Universal Children's Day is held every Nov. 20 around the world. Under resolution 836 (IX) of Dec. 14, 1953, the United Nations General Assembly recommended that all countries observe a Universal Children's Day with activities devoted to promote the ideals and objectives of the Charter and welfare of the children around the world. The day also marks when the UN Assembly adopted the Declaration of the Rights of the Child, in 1959 and the Convention on the Rights of the Child in 1989.
