NEW YORK — Amid a surge in Islamophobic incidents of violence in the United States following the Nov. 13 Paris terror attacks, a Saudi girl student wearing her hijab was stabbed by two assailants at a bus station in Hackensack city in the state of New Jersey. The condition of the girl is stable, the Saudi Press Agency reported on Sunday, quoting a statement from the Saudi Consulate in New York and Cultural Attaché at the Saudi Embassy in Washington. The student, who is pursuing higher studies at her own expense, was rushed to the emergency section of a local hospital. Later, she was discharged from the hospital. "A team from the consulate visited the girl. The consulate is in constant contact with the cultural and social affairs department at the attaché with regard to the incident," the statement said, adding that the Saudi Embassy has deputed a local team of lawyers to pursue legal measures, in coordination with the local police, to bring the culprits to justice. Last year Nahid Almanea, 31, was stabbed to death in Colchester, Essex, in a racially motivated attack.
