JEDDAH – After its Monday inauguration by Emir of Makkah Prince Khalid Al-Faisal, The Empty Quarter Fine Art and Photography Gallery on Tuesday debuted NASS, a solo photography exhibition by Saudi photographer Reem Al-Faisal. The highly-regarded series features the artist's trademark black and white photos and for the first time, several color photographs. NASS shows the artist experimenting with new photographic processes and techniques. The Empty Quarter Gallery first opened in 2007 in Dubai where it is considered one of the most popular galleries in the city. Al-Faisal, a photographer with over 25 years of experience, is known for her black and white photos which gives them great depth. NASS series of photographs is an important milestone for Al-Faisal in which she explores the strengths and loneliness of the human condition and explores the depths of the human spirit and the creative process through translating refractive light into movement and emotion. The Empty Quarter Gallery in Jeddah does not only showcase local artwork, but also features a concoction of the most prestigious contemporary and vintage artwork in the world to appeal to every artistic taste. The gallery is not only a platform of display but a platform of empowerment as well through its numerous soirees events, workshops, conferences and varied art projects. Al Faisal has had her photos exhibited in Paris, China, Japan, Egypt and the United States. Some of her recent group exhibitions include Women Photographers of the Middle East. Some previous galleries and projects include: Howard Greenberg Gallery New York in 2014, St. Road in 2013, MODEM Centre for Modern and Contemporary Arts, Debrecen, Hungary; 25 Years of Arab Creativity in 2013, Naila Art Gallery in Riyadh; Domination, Hegemony, and the Panopticon in 2012, Traffic in Dubai; Edge of Arabia London in 2008, Brunei Gallery, London; and Images from the Arab World in 2007, National Museum of Singapore. A solo exhibition of her work, Reem Al Faisal Photography, was held at Le Violon Bleu in Tunisia, in 2012.
