Saudi Gazette The Fairmont Raffles Hotel International located in the heart of Makkah has launched a campaign “Let's go green” to make the city greener and more beautiful. As part of their corporate social responsibility programs, this campaign was intended to bring about positive environmental awareness inside the organization and the society. The employees dressed in green propagated the message “Let's go green” printed boldly on their t-shirts. They enthusiastically volunteered to plant a thousand trees in the city. Trees, when fully grown, will absorb approximately 24 tons of particulate pollution on average, per year. The planted trees will enhance the beauty of the city, reduce humidity, and improve air quality. Inspiration of this campaign stems from the Prophet Muhammad's (peace be upon him) emphasis on respecting the land and the environment. Prince Khalid Al-Faisal, Emir of Makkah region, also supports the initiative and visualizes a greener future in the Kingdom. Khaled Yamak, the Director of Communications and Business Development of the company, told the Saudi Gazette, “The environment isn't just something that's “out there”; it's where we live and work each day. It is the responsibility of all community members to look after the well-being of our environmental space. We are thankful to our 100 colleagues who came forward to volunteer. The “Let's go green” campaign is part of our commitment to giving back to our community.” __
