Former World Cup-winning captain Fabio Cannavaro has been appointed as head coach of Saudi Arabian champion Al-Nasr. The club says it has signed a contract with Cannavaro until the end of the season and that the 42-year-old will arrive in Saudi Arabia Tuesday afternoon ahead of his unveiling. Cannavaro replaces Jorge da Silva, who was sacked Friday following a 1-0 home defeat to Al-Shabab. Cannavaro was replaced as coach of Guangzhou Evergrande in June after just seven months in charge and with the club top of the Chinese Super League and into the quarterfinals of the Asian Champions League. As a player, Cannavaro won the Ballon d'Or and the FIFA World Player of the Year awards after captaining Italy to the 2006 World Cup. — AP
