Okaz EDUCATION used to challenge students' skills and abilities so that they invest so much of their time and effort to continue learning and pass their examinations that test their mental abilities. Therefore, the passing of examination meant real success that made the students feel the joy of winning. The grade point average that a student used to acquire at the end of the school year reflected his or her hard work and meant more than just a gift from teachers and school administrators who also took pride in showing off their students' high GPAs in comparison to other schools. Two decades ago, the Ministry of Education adopted a policy of easing tests to the extent that the exams were canceled in primary classes and replaced with what is called continuous evaluation. This new method is nothing but a process by which the student passes and all students are equal in performance whether they worked hard or not. It doesn't matter anymore what GPA the student gets because they are meaningless. Students lack motivation to challenge their own abilities and productivity to earn success. This poor performance created a huge gap that could be the reason why so many of our youth are susceptible to suspicious invitations that give them a sense of heroism and promise them victory. That is why it is important for those working in the education sector to realize that unless education becomes challenging again motivating students to invest their energy in what they learn, we will find our children searching for other avenues that give them a sense of feeling that education no longer can provide them with.
