CLASSIC cars bring out the enthusiast in everyone whether it be a restored 1960s Mini Cooper S or a vintage Rolls-Royce, there's something that appeals to every budget and every taste.
For the first time, a host of motoring icons will join the leading lights of the Dubai International Motor Show (DIMS) as part of the Motoring Nostalgia Museum for classic and historically significant cars. Some of the world's most desirable and collectible cars from the 1950s to the 1980s will add a vibrant new dimension to the show for the 100,000 plus visitors who will make their way through the Dubai World Trade Center's (DWTC) doors from Nov.10-14.
"This new addition to DIMS is going to be something very special," said Trixie LohMirmand, Senior Vice President, Exhibitions & Events Management, Dubai World Trade Centre.
"We are aiming to make it fun, engaging and interactive by showcasing the great eras of the motoring industry that will take our visitors back in time. It opens the Dubai International Motor Show up to a wider audience who are interested in all types of cars regardless of their age. These iconic vehicles are symbols of their generations, as well as unique pieces which represent some of the greatest years of motoring."
A collection of the finest and most significant cars in the history of the automobile from Europe, the United States and Asia have been generously loaned from Mohammed Ben Sulayem, Tomini Classics, the Sharjah Museum and the Al Ain Classics collections as well as from a number of proud owners from the Dubai Grand Parade for the duration of the show.
Catherine Grennan, Head of Classic Car Division, Tomini Classics, said: "Tomini Classics is thrilled to have the opportunity to share our collection with the car enthusiasts who visit the Motoring Nostalgia Museum. Our display will take the visitors on a historical journey through motoring history with classics ranging from the 1950s to the 80s. We believe that the Motoring Nostalgia Museum will generate great excitement for these historically significant classics that are visually stimulating and have become the world's most compelling asset class."
Everything from a delectable 1951 Riley RMC Roadster with its graceful, sweptback looks that defined the immediate postwar period through to the model that virtually coined the "supercar" phrase, the twin-turbocharged, all-wheel drive 1988 Porsche 959 will be on display in their dedicated auto alley located in DWTC's Zabeel 1 Hall.
They will join a wide variety of cars covering the full spectrum of desire including a stunning 1965 Rolls-Royce Silver Cloud, an original Land Rover, a striking 1955 300SL Gullwing Mercedes-Benz and a 1974 Ferrari Dino to name just a few.
In keeping with the family friendly feel, visitors to Motoring Nostalgia will be able to take guided tours from resident experts, enjoy street food cuisine from Food Trucks and enjoy retro music down memory lane throughout the five days that take enthusiasts back to the golden age from 1950s Rock ‘n Roll to the Swinging Sixties and beyond. Visitors will also have the opportunity to hear forums covering topics such as how to buy and register a classic car in the UAE.
Master craftsmen will showcase their skills and interest for disciplines including leather stitching, to a cobbler at work as well as artists painting, all of which shows an appreciation for classic cars as a lifestyle just as much as a beautiful motor vehicle.
Held every two years, the Dubai International Motor Show is the main highlight of the Dubai Motor Festival, which is held under the patronage of Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai. The Dubai Motor Festival is organized by Dubai Festivals and Retail Establishment (DFRE), an agency of Dubai's Department of Tourism and Commerce Marketing (DTCM), and builds on the widespread passion of all motor related sports across the region.
The 2015 Dubai International Motor Show is supported by Show partners AC Delco, Alienware, Autopro, Cooper Tires, ENOC, RTA and Swiss Tourism. The show will be open from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m. on Nov. 10; from 11a.m. to 10 p.m. on Nov.11; from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. on Nov.12 and 13; and from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. on Nov.14.
Prices are AED 65 for single-day entry, with children under 12 entering free and includes entry to the Motoring Nostalgia Museum. Children under the age of 16 must be accompanied by an adult.
