based judicial system which protects rights and freedoms, said Dr. Muhammad Bin Abdul Karim Al-Issa, Minister of Justice, here Tuesday. He made the comments during a meeting with Luigi Narbone, Head of the European Commission Delegation for the Gulf, and European Union ambassadors. Al-Issa said that the country's judicial system is dependable and impartial. “Our policy emphasizes this fact. Anyone can monitor our justice at public court sessions.” The minister said that the Kingdom has introduced a number of changes to the system in terms of new technology and human resources, in line with the criteria laid down by the King Abdullah Project for the Development of the Judicial System. “Our system is run by experts who know society very well.” The minister said judges base their verdicts on the Shariah which guarantees justice for everyone. Saudi judges have dealt efficiently with all contemporary issues by attending local and international conferences, symposiums and meetings, he added. The Kingdom's laws guarantee justice for everyone, even those involved in terrorism and national security cases, he pointed out. “We don't have any special courts for these cases. The suspects are tried in civil courts without prejudicing judicial values. The Kingdom's judiciary is known for its long history of protecting rights and freedoms.” He said the justice ministry is currently working on a plan to introduce alternative sentences to solve social problems and resolve disputes. “Our system deals with rulings from foreign arbitrators based on our laws, just like other countries.”
