A High Commission to protect and restore the rights of women and children should be set up in the Kingdom, it was recommended by a women's forum which ended here Sunday. The Forum on Saudi Women and their Rights was held under the patronage of Princess Seeta Bint Abdullah Bin Abdul Aziz. The forum recommended that the High Commission should be based on similar agencies in other countries. The forum also recommended that the experience of foreign countries should be utilized and adapted to Islamic law and local customs. Other recommendations included more care and attention for divorced women, especially those who support children. These women should also be provided with housing and alimony from their former husbands. The forum participants also wanted a subject on women's legal rights to be included in school curricula. It also called for revising and updating laws that do not clearly support women's rights. Delegates also wanted public and private bodies to raise awareness about women's rights and issues. They called for organizing a forum periodically to discuss women's Shariah rights and duties, and to help eradicate any negative social practices that deprive women of their lawful rights.
