Women who are fed up with their drivers scamming them out of money are learning about car parts and maintenance. The women say they've been forced to act as scheming drivers claim their car is broken when there is actually nothing wrong with it. A lot of women are searching online for the prices of spare parts but now an increasing number are going to the mechanics' shop. There, they are learning to differentiate between fake and original spare parts and even how to haggle with mechanics. One of these women, Lubna Oraishi explained to Al-Madina why she has been forced to learn about the ins and outs of car maintenance. She revealed that when her brother got married, she had to get a driver. However she noticed that the driver would come to her every now and then to tell her something was wrong with the car. “I decided to go with him to the repair shop to see how much it costs to repair the car. I discovered that he fooled me because all this time he was buying used spare parts and bringing invoices for original spare parts,” she said. Mechanic Muhammad Hassan Al-Wahashi revealed that Lubna is not alone and that many women are now coming to his auto-shop. “The common problems which make women come to the repair shop are: balance shafts, brakes and tires,” he said. He has also noted a number of differences between his male and female customers. “Women bargain more than men and prefer to come with their drivers to be sure of the price of the spare parts, because they feel their drivers lie about the price.” Another mechanic Muhammad Musa revealed that he is also noticing a rise in the number of women coming to his auto-shop. “Many women come here to have their cars repaired and some have even become regular customers,” he said.
