Dhabi Investment House - the master developer of Qatar Entertainment City, Qatar's first integrated family destination - awarded on Tuesday its preliminary infrastructure package tender to Redco International Company, the Doha-based construction company. Qatar Entertainment City, also known as Tarfeeh City, is a $3billion development covering one million square meters of land including one kilometer of prime Gulf beachfront. The City is the anchor development for Lusail, the 35-square kilometer northern expansion of the Qatari capital, Doha. The development will include a state-of-the-art theme park, man made sea canal, an open air theatre, five star hotels, prime retail space, international dining, and residential communities. The tender awarded by Qatar Entertainment City to Redco International Company is valued at QAR29 million over five months. The first phase of infrastructure work covered by the contract includes the final stage of reclamation and landfill settlement, and the construction of a man made sea canal which runs through the city. At 1.5 kilometers in length, the canal is one of the most important infrastructural elements in the development. Separating the northern and southern districts of Qatar Entertainment City, it provides a vital and sustainable transport link by water taxi when the development is complete. Yousef Ali Darwish, general manager, Qatar Entertainment City, said: “The canal is an essential and visually stunning centre-piece to our development, providing a vital transport link as well as a desirable waterfront environment for living, dining and relaxing. It was important to us that its construction was awarded to a company that understood our need for outstanding project management and exceptional delivery. In working with Redco International Company, we have chosen a partner that meets our exacting standards.” The first phase of infrastructure work will begin this week and is due for completion on Nov. 12, 2008 __
