Indian and foreign nationals traveling to India should beware of carrying satellite phone services, the Consulate General of India said Sunday. “Carrying unauthorized hand sets of Thuraya, Inmarsat, Irridium and other such satellite telephony operators to India is illegall. If anyone is found with an unauthorized satellite telephone handset, he can be prosecuted under the relevant Indian laws and his handset is likely to be seized,” the CGI said in a statement. “If one wishes to use satellite telephone services in India, he may used Inmarsat satellite telephonic services provided by the Tata Communications Limited, only after getting a no-objection certificate from the Department of Telecommunications” in India, the statement added.
