International Indian School, Riyadh bagged the overall title in the Inter-School Badminton Championship of the CBSE-affiliated schools in the Kingdom. This tournament was conducted at the International Indian School, Dammam as part of the XVIIIth Principals Conference and Cluster Meet 2008 scheduled to be held on Nov. 2-6 at IIS Dammam. Saudi Chapter of the CBSE Gulf Council has 17 Indian schools in the Kingdom with more than 60,000 students. Over 100 boys and girls from 6 international schools competed in the two-day event in three age groups - Under 14, Under 16 and Under 19. IIS Riyadh won the coveted overall championship by winning 73 points. Host IIS Dammam claimed the second place with 55 points and IIS Jubail came third with 40 points. IIS Jeddah stood fourth with 16 points. In a colorful valedictory ceremony held at Professor Rasheeduzzafar Auditorium, Mubarak Bubshait, Senior Supervisor of Foreign Schools from the Saudi Ministry of Education was the chief guest. Khalid Ruwai (Ministry of Education, Eastern Province), IISD Managing Committee Chairman Dr. Mumtaz Ali, Members of the Managing Committee Abdulla Manjeri, John Thomas, Fayazuddin and Principal E. K. Mohammed Shaffe felicitated the winners and presented the trophies. Managers from schools T.J. Reddy (Riyadh), Ghouse (Jubail), Rasheed (Jeddah), Pandyan (DPS,Riyadh), Rajan (Al-Kozama) and Pervez Ahmed (IIS Dammam) received the participation and winners certificates on behalf of the respective school teams. Principal E. K. Mohammed Shaffe welcomed the gathering and guests and girls school Vice Principal Dr. Anvar Batcha proposed the vote of thanks. Boys school captain Sufian Merchant compered the inauguration ceremony. An organizing committee with Nazeer Maniyamkulam as the chief Coordinator, N. Lakshmaiah as organizing secretary and Pervez Ahmed and Sujata Panesar as assistant organizing secretaries coordinated this event.
