A plebiscite is the only way to solve the Kashmir issue, said Abdullah Al-Aalam, assistant secretary general and special representative of the OIC secretary-general on the Jammu & Kashmir dispute, Thursday while commemorating Kashmir Black Day at the Consulate General of Pakistan. “The OIC reiterates its commitment to the people of Kashmir for the peaceful resolution of the Kashmir problem, according to UN resolutions,” he said. “It is the collective responsibility of the international community to support the Kashmiri people in their struggle for achievement of the right of self-determination.” Consul General of Pakistan, Abdul Salik Khan, who presided over the ceremony, said that the persistent use of force has not weakened the indomitable will of the Kashmiri people. He said that Pakistan is committed to give unflinching political, diplomatic and moral support to the people of Kashmir. He thanked the leadership of Saudi Arabia for their support for the resolution of the Kashmir problem. The occasion was also observed by members of the Pakistani community and Kashmiris at the Pakistan Embassy in Riyadh. “The Kashmir problem is not only an issue of territory, but also one of human rights. Human rights violations and repressions of the people (there) must be stopped,” said Muhammad Naeem Khan, the Pakistani Ambassador. While Kashmir Black Day falls on Oct. 27, the occasion was observed in the Pakistani Embassy and Consulate on Thursday. Prominent community leaders including Masud Khan Puri, Amir Muhammad Khan, and Engineer Aziz addressed the gathering. The speakers urged the international community to come forward and play their role in ending the ongoing oppression in Kashmir and resolving the issue in accordance with UN resolutions.
