STC bagged most of the awards at the “SAMENA's 4th Conference” held recently in Doha, Qatar, the company said Thursday. The STC Group was named “Best Telecommunications Operator in the Middle East” for 2011, it said in a press statement. STC also garnered two other awards related to ownership, mergers as well as broadband and wire services. Eng. Saud Bin Majed Al-Daweesh got a special recognition for playing a major role in developing the telecommunication and information industry in the Middle East and North Africa. The awards, which were given by the group SAMENA, were a testimony of STC's achievements as the largest telecommunications operator in the Middle East, it said. The awards were announced by a panel of experts from the fields of technology, information, business and finance. SAMENA Telecommunications Council is a tri-regional, non-profit telecommunications association, is an umbrella group of more than 40 telecommunications operators in 25 markets. The operators have an aggregate subscriber-base of 700 million mobile users, 79 million fixed-line users and 22 million broadband users. SAMENA Council's members include telecom operators, manufacturers, government bodies, academia and leading global management consultancy organizations. SAMENA aims to promote beneficial regulation and governance of the industry as well as foster cooperation among key ICT industry stakeholders.
