No. 3 Ohio St holds off North Florida
Published in The Saudi Gazette on 23 - 11 - 2011

Jared Sullinger had 27 points and 13 rebounds, and No. 3 Ohio State roared to a big first-half lead to beat North Florida Ospreys 85-50 Monday.
But it was harder than expected for the Buckeyes (4-0).
“This basketball team on the floor is pretty good,” Sullinger said of the Ospreys. “They're very disciplined and they know how to score. Their bigs were posting up well and also their offense was clicking. They did the same thing to Alabama and the same thing to Miami. It wasn't a surprise. We knew they were going to come out ready to play.”
Deshaun Thomas added 16 points and William Buford 13 for Ohio State, which ran its home winning streak to 26 in a row.
But the Ospreys hung tough. They trailed just 17-14 midway through the first half before the Buckeyes spurted away to take a 45-26 halftime lead.
After Ohio State scored 15 of the first 17 points in the second half, it appeared the rout was on. But before it was over, Buckeyes coach Thad Matta reinserted his starting five because he was unhappy with the subs play and the lead had dwindled to 61-40.
Parker Smith had 10 points for North Florida (1-4), which has lost on the road to heavyweights Alabama, Florida, Miami and the Buckeyes. The Ospreys dropped to 0-11 against ranked teams.
The game was part of the Global Sports Shootout.
Michigan tops Memphis
Tim Hardaway Jr. had 21 points as No. 15 Michigan beat No. 8 Memphis 73-61. Back in Maui for the first time since 1998, Michigan (4-0) looked right at home, shooting 54 percent while hounding the Tigers with a variety of defenses.
Notre Dame falls
The fifth-year senior Tim Abromaitis returned from a four-game suspension to score 22 points for Notre Dame, but the Fighting Irish couldn't slow down the fast-paced attack of No. 21 Missouri in an 87-58 loss that was decided long before the final buzzer.
Abromaitis was 9 of 18 from the field and added three assists, trying his best to get the rest of the young Fighting Irish involved. He just didn't find enough help, and the Tigers used a 16-2 run that spanned halftime to put the game away.
Marcus Denmon scored 26 points, Phil Pressey added 17 and Ricardo Ratliffe had 12 for the Tigers (4-0), who shot 63.3 percent from the field while building a 52-37 lead by halftime.
Other results: Vanderbilt 64, Oregon St 62; Duke 77, Tennesse 67; Florida 78, Wright St 65; Kansas 67, Georgetown 63; Marquette 59, Norfolk St 57; California 70, Georgia 46; Miss. St 68, UL-Mon 63.
