Scientific miracles in the Holy Qur'an
Published in The Saudi Gazette on 07 - 07 - 2008

THE Qur'an was revealed to be a book of guidance, wisdom and reformation not only for Muslims, but for all the people of the world regardless of their cultural, ethnic or religious backgrounds. This is why whoever approaches the Qur'an with open-mindedness and objectivity will discover that the Qur'an is like a diamond with different facets and each facet requires years to study and reflect on.
One of these facets is scientific miracles. A lot of scientists embraced Islam because when they read the Qur'an, they discovered that it talked about facts more than 14 centuries before, which have only been discovered by scientists only recently. However, this does not mean that the Qur'an was revealed to be read as a book of science, but as a book of legislation and guidance, “And We sent down the Book to you for the express purpose, that you shouldst make clear to them those things in which they differ, and that it should be a guide and a mercy to those who believe.” (Qur'an, 16:64)
One of the scientific facts that shocked or at least surprised scientists is the Qur'anic description of the different stages of man's creation: “And indeed We created man (Adam) out of an extract of clay (water and earth).
Therefater We made him (the offspring of Adam) as a Nutfah (mixed drops of the male and female sexual discharge and lodged it) in a safe lodging (womb of the woman).
Then We made the Nutfah into a clot (a piece of thick coagulated blood), We made the clot into a little lump of flesh, then We made out of that little lump of flesh bones, then We clothed them bones with flesh, and the We brought it forth as another creation. So Blessed is Allah, the Best of creators.
After that, surely, you will die.” (Qur'an, 23: 12-15)
Zaghloul El-Naggar, the famous geologist and man of religion, comments on this description “The basics of these scientific facts, which actually represent the core of embryology, were only discovered at the end of the 18th century. Moreover, it took more than two centuries for the basics of this science to be established and accepted by embryologists … All of these scientific facts mentioned in the Qur'an … ten centuries or more ago, only assure that the Qur'an is the Word of Allah.”
It is noteworthy to mention that the Qur'an talks about different and diverse miracles related to the creation of the universe, creation of metals (the iron), the celestial bodies, …etc.
The feeling the reader has in such cases is that this Glorious Book is the true and final word of Allah revealed to Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) as Allah's final message to humanity. __
