The Ministry of Justice may possibly empower marriage officials – known in Arabic as Ma'dhouns – to counsel young married couples. This is to help counter the possibility of divorce, said Muhammad Al-Babtain, Director of the General Administration of Ma'dhouns at the Ministry of Justice. A Ma'dhoun is a person who has received basic education in Shariah and is licensed by the ministry to conduct marriages. Al-Babtain said young couples lack the necessary religious knowledge to help them deal with problems that can cause divorce. He said the ministry is in the process of organizing workshops for the ma'dhouns to see how they can help couples. Factors which lead to divorce include social and educational incompatibility. There are also psychological reasons for divorce, he added. __
