Muslims must respect sacred months and stop sedition and shedding blood of the innocent, Sheikh Saleh Aal Talib, Imam and Khateeb of the Grand Mosque in Makkah, has said. In his Friday sermon, Sheikh Aal Talib said it was the duty of the Muslims to respect the inviolability of the sacred months, particularly after a period of sedition and turmoil which has made shedding the human blood — which is extremely inviolable — very easy. Aal Talib reminded Muslims of the prophecy of Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) that a time would come when killings would increase to such an extent that the killer would not know the reason for killing and the victim will be unaware of the reasons for his slaying. “It is high time people keep away their weapons and stop bloodletting in view of the Prophetic advice made during the farewell Haj that Muslims' blood, wealth and honor are inviolable. It is high time those concerned started contemplating on their real situation and respecting the sacred months (Al-Ashhur Al-Hurum). It is high time that they allow the interests to outweigh the evils and the Ummah's gains should outweigh individuals' interests. It is high time lives and rights were protected,” the Imam said. Sheikh Aal Talib stressed that it is the duty of the leaders and Ulema to do their best to stop bloodletting. “The conflicts and disputes have divided Muslims and have made one Ummah into several differing nations,” he said.
