The government has appointed a special team to assess the effectiveness of women teaching primary school boys at private schools, said Noura Al-Fayez, Deputy Minister of Education for Girls. She said there was “confusion” in society about the decision to allow female teachers to educate boys. She said primary school boys and girls will remain segregated at private schools, according to a report in Al-Riyadh newspaper. About 70 private primary schools for girls in the Eastern Province applied to the ministry to allow female teachers to teach primary school boys. There was subsequently a large turnout of parents who wanted to enroll their boys. Al-Fayez added that the ministry intends to appoint more women in decision-making positions. This is part of the “women leadership selection” project aimed at ensuring women get equal access to opportunities, she said.
