The Ministry of Commerce and Industry has uncovered 870 Tasattur cases over the last nine months during inspections of 2,982 enterprises. Tasattur or coverup cases involve foreigners paying Saudis to operate businesses under their names. The practice is illegal. The ministry's General Administration for Commercial CoverUp referred 249 cases, or 28.6% of the total, to the Bureau of Investigation and Prosecution (BIP), while 229 cases, or 26.3%, were dropped. The ministry is currently studying 392 cases, or 45.1% of the total. A total of 41.3% of cases were in construction and contracting while 28.3% cases were there in retail businesses.
