During the elections for members of the municipal councils across the country on Thursday, we witnessed the level of people's social awareness based on the voters turnout. The issue could not be measured by the election results alone, but also on the way the elections were conducted. The election process in itself is a yardstick of the level of social awareness of people - the way they cast their votes, the process of organizing the balloting and their attitude toward the political exercise. The voting in the polling places went on smoothly, there were no signs of disruption in the voting processes and no signs of public dispute among tribes. This shows that voters have reached a level of high maturity. It also suggests that the people have taken their responsibility seriously. With voters fulfilling their responsibility, the municipal councils around the Kingdom should meet the needs of the citizens and translate their plans into action to contribute to the country's development. They should see to it that citizens are provided with the means to be able to lead decent lives. The elections are still incomplete pending the results, but they will remain incomplete if the newly elected members of the municipal councils do not fulfill the promises that they made during the campaign period. Those promises should not remain empty slogans but should be translated into reality. The council members should get to work to serve the interests of the people. __
