Moori finished top in driving skills with a time of 01:48:403 at the end of the first day of competition in the first round of Chevrolet Speed Star Championship at Durat Al-Arous here, Wednesday. Al-Moori, a phenomenon in the exciting sport of driving skills, charged through the grueling qualification process, winning the tandem battle. Al-Moori said: “I would like to thank Chevrolet Motorsport team and Abdullah Bakhashab, Motorsport Developer in the Kingdom, for making the sport increasingly more challenging. I also appreciate the opportunity to finish the Chevrolet Speed Star Championship first day driving skills on top and waiting eagerly for Thursday to finish top overall.” Eyad Al-Najar, driving a modified 6-cylinder BMW M3 car, finished second (01:51:234), while rally driver Bandar Al-Ghaleb driving a modified 8-cylinder Toyota Supra was third (01:52:223). Driving skills competition is a high skill, high-powered motorsport that calls for drivers to control a car while it slides at high speeds through a marked course. It is similar to rally racing, but is done on a closed-paved course. It is judged on execution and style rather than time alone. The Chevrolet Speed Star Championship series, the first national driving skills championship series in the Kingdom, was launched last year. Driving skills is a fast growing motorsport, with a growing fan base and many corporations are vying to take advantage of the attention. On Thursday the drivers will collect points as follows: 20 points for first position, 15 for the second, 12 for the third, 10 for the fourth, 8 for the fifth, 6 for the sixth, 4 for the seventh and 2 for the eighth. Cash awards - SR10,000 for the first, SR6,000 for the second and SR3,000 for the third – await the top three finishers here. __
