Josh Hamilton and Adrian Beltre blasted homers and Craig Gentry had an inside-the-park home run as Texas defeated Seattle 5-3 Friday to clinch the American League West Division title. The Rangers (91-66) needed a win and a loss by the Los Angeles Angels to clinch their second consecutive division title. The Angels lost 3-1 to Oakland later Friday. Starter Matt Harrison (14-9) pitched six innings for the Rangers, who advanced to their first World Series last year after their fourth AL West title. Gentry belted a line drive to left-center field in the fourth inning that hit the outfield wall after splitting the gap between two outfielders. Left fielder Mike Carp and center fielder Trayvon Robinson both made diving attempts to catch the ball but came up empty. It was the first inside-the-park homer for Texas since Nelson Cruz did it in 2006 at Oakland. Cruz was on base when Gentry achieved the feat. That made it 5-0 and chased rookie pitcher Anthony Vasquez, who gave up three homers and seven hits over just 3 1-3 innings for Seattle. Tigers 4, Orioles 3, 11 innings: Victor Martinez's run-scoring double in the 11th inning gave the Detroit Tigers a victory over the Baltimore Orioles. Brandon Inge started the inning with a walk off Willie Eyre (2-2), and Miguel Cabrera hit a one-out single. Rookie Zach Phillips came on to face Martinez and gave up the game-ending double on his third pitch. Alfredo Simon pitched the first eight innings for Baltimore, allowing three runs and six hits. Rick Porcello allowed three runs, nine hits and a walk in seven innings. Ryan Perry (1-0) got the win with a scoreless 11th. Detroit tied the game at 3 in the fifth when Jhonny Peralta led off with a double and scored on Ramon Santiago's second single of the game. Blue Jays 5, Rays 1: Brandon Morrow pitched seven scoreless innings and the Toronto Blue Jays further dampened Tampa Bay's playoff hopes, beating the Rays. The Rays dropped 2½ games behind Boston in the AL wild-card race as the Red Sox were rained out at New York. Tampa Bay has only five games left. A night after pounding out 17 hits in a 15-8 road romp at Yankee Stadium, the Rays were limited to Matt Joyce's second-inning infield single until Casey Kotchman singled with one out in the seventh off Morrow (11-11). In other games it was: Indians 6, Twins 5; Royals 11, White Sox 1; the game between Boston Red Sox and the New York Yankees was postponed because of rain.
